So, I'll open that file up, now here's our full stack trace, and if you aren't familiar with the java stack trace, these are really hard to read, I think at least when you first get started. I'll just clear my screen and the command I want to use here is just vim and then var/log/tomcat8 and then it's a localhost then a dot and then it's actually just today's date. With these selection criteria in mind, we identified the best Apache Tomcat monitoring systems. There are seven levels defined for Tomcat logging services (JULI). To change that, do the following: Edit the file: /lib/systemd/system/rvice Comment out the line: SyslogIdentifiertomcat9 and add these two lines: StandardOutputappend:/var/log/tomcat9/catalina.out StandardErrorappend:/var/log/tomcat9/catalina. Okay, we'll type in 192.168.33.10:8080/stacktrace/ and here you can see our error and there's a little bit of the stack trace, but I actually want to look at this in the logs, so I'll go back to my terminal. In Tomcat 7 (and also 6), the logging code is based on a set of classes interacting with the API (JUL), which comes with Java since version 1.4. Ubuntu 18.04 and 20.04 now use 'systemd' and log to the journal. I'm going to just deploy that now so sudo cp and I've copied it into the same directory as my vagrant file stacktrace.war and then the destination is var/lib/tomcat8/webapps/. There is another web app in the exercise files. When choosing the default option, the agent will expect and parse logs in a format that matches the default logging configuration.
